Sustainable electronic products: Compel connectors are turning green

Cornate d’Adda, november 2006 - Compel Electronics SpA, www.compel.it, a Company recognised internationally as a leader in the design and manufacture of interconnection systems and cable assemblies, announces to have obtained the ISO 14001 certification.

The future commitment Compel Electronics has set itself is ambitious. For about a year Compel has undertaken a parallel development alongside its products which has led to the evolution of an “Environmental Management System”, which has been UNI EN ISO 14001 certified. This recognition represents the verification of the integrated management not only of environmental aspects, but also of the use or production resources such as energy and raw material. “We are well aware that all activities of an industrial nature, including those carried out by our company, have an impact on the environment” states Carlo Alberto Aprile, Director of Compel Electronics "and that the advantages gained by obtaining the ISO 14001 certification will have positive implications both for the environment and for the company, in terms of reduction in waste, lower costs and a better image in a socio-economic context”.

Nevertheless, obtaining the ISO 14001 certification is only the first step of a long development plan which Compel has taken on, with the aim of examining and analysing the product in detail from an environmental point of view.

The evolution from an adaptive attitude to looking at the opportunities offered regarding environmental issues is Compel’s future objective. This will be achieved by means of an integrated LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) study which assesses the impact and the usage of resources through the “from cradle to gate” method, to subsequently arrive at the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration).

This certification, called of the “third type”, will allow us to compare the environmental performance of Compel connectors with other products available on the market and to inform our customers regarding not only their high quality, but also their maximum environmental compatibility and sustainability. Thanks to this Declaration, the comparison can be played on an international level and will mean that Compel products can become known together with their added value, demonstrating a continuous improvement towards environmental sustainability.
